Brief Profile of the Organisation

Cavish is an Urdu word of Persian origin, which means effort or struggle. This national level NGO was established in July 1997 and registered as a society in August 1998 under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. The organisation was set up by a group of professionals brought together by a common desire to struggle against poverty, inequality and injustice. Cavish wants to take an active role in the development process in Pakistan, by working towards sustainable human development through participatory approaches. Cavish is endeavoring to make a positive contribution in these areas through implementing projects that are presently running all over Pakistan. It is committed to poverty alleviation and education initiatives, facilitating people in their struggle to achieve the greatest degree of self-reliance and social integration. A significant area of focus of Cavish that has built up over the last eight years has been mobilisation of communities through participatory approaches. Cavish has a strong resource base in Participatory Reflection and Action (PRA) philosophy. Cavish is committed to building capacity of CBOs, NGOs and other development actors in implementing projects using the participatory approach, through formal training and practical field work.
