PAVHNA is an umbrella body with over 40 NGOs and CBOs (small community based organisations) as its members, working in the development field in Pakistan. Established in 1979, and registered at federal and provincial levels, PAVHNA was originally set up with the objective of improving the nutritional and related health and socio-economic status of the most disadvantaged sector of society - women and children. The idea was to pool the resources of like-minded agencies to make a concerted effort to achieve these objectives. Its activities were started off by an UNICEF project on providing better nutrition for severely malnourished children and a programme of vaccination. It was soon realized that nutrition was too narrow a focus and to achieve objectives of better health for women and children the projects needed to be far more integrated and with a broader vision. |
