Karachi, January 29; The Citizens Group on Electoral Process � CGEP, under the chairmanship of Justice (Retd.) Saeed uz Zaman Siddiqui, Former Chief Justice of Pakistan, held a meeting with the Provincial Election Commissioner Sindh, Qmar-uz-Zaman at his office Karachi on Tuesday, January 29, 2008. Other members of the Group Dr. Ijaz Shafi Gilani, Chairman, Gallup Pakistan Ltd.; Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Moinuddin Haider, Former Governor Sindh and Former Interior Minister; Ahmed Bilal Mehboob , Executive Director, PILDAT; and Aasiya Riaz, Joint Director of PILDAT were also present in the meeting.

 
 

The Group discussed the pre-electoral environment in Sindh and was briefed on election-related issues emanating out of riots in the aftermath of tragic assassination of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto.

 
 

The Citizens Group on Electoral Process (CGEP), a non-partisan body of eminent Pakistanis has been monitoring the electoral process since December 2006. The Group consists of former judiciary, lawyers, senior media persons, academics, analysts and former civil and military bureaucracy. The CGEP has been meeting on a monthly basis to review the electoral process and highlight its concerns through press Statements, Seminars and Research Papers on electoral issues such as electoral rolls, Code of Conduct, Presidential Elections, Electoral Reforms, the NRO etc.
